We are #ResilientTogether

The COVID-19 pandemic presents a unique set of challenges for African smallholder farmers, who rely on five acres of land or less for their food and income.

Disruptions in planting, harvesting, processing, and selling food will be catastrophic for farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs across sub-Saharan Africa.

The moment is critical.

Across the globe, there are shortages of food at the market. There are fewer jobs available. And millions are struggling with newly lowered or non-existent incomes. For many people in the U.S. and other wealthy countries, these are sudden and new experiences. But they are only a glimpse into the challenges many rural Africans face every day.

In 2019

million
people suffered from acute food insecurity around the globe.

COVID-19 and other crises means
that number could nearly double in 2020

million
people could be pushed to the brink of starvation.

A global economic downturn will hit already struggling people the hardest.

Existing gaps in economies will become wider. The lack of resources for rural farmers will become more drastic. Opportunities for rural entrepreneurs will disappear across Africa. Most nations will not have the extraordinary resources needed to stop the devastating impact.

We could see tens of millions more people experiencing hunger and extreme poverty by year’s end.

You can help.

With your support, we will be able to continue working with our African neighbors to strengthen food systems. Farmers will still be able process food with more efficient tools. Entrepreneurs will still have access to resources to create food products and generate income. Donate now so they can weather not just the current crisis, but any challenge in the future.

These past few weeks have shown us that we live in a global society. We must work together to raise up the most vulnerable among us and ensure we all grow #ResilientTogether.
