2022 Annual Report

During the 2022 fiscal year (July 2021 – June 2022), Bountifield continued working hard to bring impactful postharvest solutions to rural communities in Africa. This year’s report highlights our achievements of our Kenya and Malawi programs. After more than 10 years of working in the groundnut value chain, December marked the end of our program in Malawi with the completion of our multi-phased project funded by the McKnight Foundation. In Kenya, we continued to expand our program offerings including with additional business training such as digital marketing and branding for our entrepreneurs.

Between our programs in both Kenya and Malawi, we supported the processing of over one million kilograms of crops. Learn more about how we impacted the lives of smallholder farmers in 2022 in our annual report.

Highlights from the Year

2022 Social Return on Investment Overview

Strengthening Our Impact

We continued to strengthen our understanding of our impact with the publication of our Social Return on Investment Analysis in partnership with Ecotone Analytics and funded by Zinpro Corporation. We also published our second white paper on our Mavuno Bora program in Kenya, funded by the van Lengerich Family and Seeding the Future Foundation.

Recognition of Our Work

We were honored with recognition of our work from the Public Interest Registry as a finalist in the 2021 .Org Impact Awards in the category of Fighting Hunger and Poverty. In addition, we were thrilled to be named co-winner of the 2021 International Innovation Award for Sustainable Food Systems from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Federal Government of Switzerland.

Expanding Our Programs

As we neared the end of Fiscal Year 2022, we expanded our partnership with Anderson Foundation and Zinpro Corporation with a three-year commitment to supporting our women entrepreneurs with the She Feeds Africa program. We also received a generous grant from The Quaker Hill Foundation to assess and test solar dryers in partnership with Kijani Testing. We look forward to reporting on results and progress of these programs in our next annual report.

Celebrating a Milestone

We ended the year on a high-note with our first in-person event since 2019 as we hosted our 40th Anniversary “Pamoja” Gala. It was an incredible evening celebrating together with old friends and new ones. We were so grateful to the energy and enthusiasm of all of our guests who came out to celebrate our achievements with us.
